The National Police of Honduras declared that the Posmura-Guaimoreto security operation associated with the state of emergency in Colon Department will be extended through Aug. 5. The security operation aims to locate and apprehend the perpetrators involved in the killing of three police officers in the municipality of Trujillo, Colon Department, April 24. The operation has also targeted groups associated with organized crime in the department.

The police may restrict movement within the department, as well as traffic entering and exiting Colon. Checkpoints may remain in place across the department. As of early May 4, it remains unclear if the state of emergency that President Xiomara Castro declared on April 24 will also be extended through Aug. 5.

A heightened police and military presence is likely to continue across Colon department until at least Aug. 5. Business and transport disruptions are possible if security forces conduct searches of businesses and vehicles.

Heed the instructions of security personnel. Plan accordingly for possible freight shipping delays via the affected area due to tighter security inspections. Remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement personnel.
