Ireland: Medical scientists to strike nationwide May 18
Medical scientists to strike nationwide in Ireland May 18; further industrial action is expected throughout May and early June.
Event
Unionized medical scientists represented by Ireland's Medical Laboratory Scientist Association (MLSA) have announced plans to strike 08:00-20:00 May 18. Should negotiations fail, further strikes are scheduled for May 24-25, May 31, and June 1-2. The strikes have been called over a dispute over pay and career development.
The strike is likely to affect access to healthcare, particularly in hospital emergency departments and general practitioner (GP) services, with routine laboratory services to be withdrawn.
Advice
Confirm all appointments at medical facilities for the duration of the strike. Be prepared for delays at hospitals; call in advance, if possible, as conditions will likely vary by facility.
