Mexico: Armed group kills at least 11 people in Celaya, Guanajuato, late May 23

At least 11 people were killed and five others injured in an armed attack in the Lindavista neighborhood of Celaya city in Guanajuato state on May 23. Armed individuals forced their way into Hotel Gala on Azalea Street at around 22:00 before opening fire and exploding incendiary devices in two bars in the area. The assailants reportedly left a note identifying themselves as members of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel.

Investigations into the incident are likely to continue May 24. Heightened security measures may cause traffic disruptions due to cordoned streets and traffic checks. Clashes between security forces and criminal elements are possible.
