Protesting employees of Mexican Petroleum (Petroleos Mexicanos, PEMEX) are blocking main roads in the Veronica Anzures neighborhood of Mexico City early May 24. Demonstrators blocked Avenida Marina Nacional as well as Laguna de Mayran road and are making several labor-related demands. Authorities are diverting traffic to Mariano Escobedo road and Avenida Ejercito Nacional.

Heightened security is likely around the protest location May 24. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely to continue over the coming hours. While the action has remained largely peaceful, clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if security forces attempt to forcibly disperse crowds.
