Isabela City is around 25 km (16 miles) south-southwest of Zamboanga City.

Context

Explosions targeting civilians are rare in the Philippines, including in Mindanao. However, blasts occurred in a bus traveling in Koronadal City, South Cotabato Province, and nearby a bus terminal in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat Province, the afternoon of May 26, injuring at least one person. While no group has claimed responsibility for the incidents, the Islamic State-affiliated Jihadi militant group Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and the communist armed wing New People's Army (NPA) are known to be active and have staged bombings in Mindanao.
