The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a tornado warning for parts of western North Carolina, notably including Hickory and areas to the city's southwest, effective until at least 13:45 EDT May 6. Areas under the tornado warning include western Catawba County, east-central Rutherford County, western Lincoln County, southeastern Caldwell County, central Cleveland County, and southeastern Burke County. The weather warning could be extended or expanded at short notice.
