Belgium: Brussels Zaventem Airport cancels all outbound passenger flights for June 20 due to nationwide strike

All outbound passenger flights from Brussels Zaventem Airport, Belgium, canceled for June 20 due to nationwide strike.

Critical

Event

Officials at Brussels Zaventem Airport (BRU) have announced that all passenger flights scheduled to depart on June 20 have been canceled due to the national day of labor strikes and protests that is slated to take place. Only arriving and cargo flights will operate at BRU on the strike date. Authorities at the facility are advising the public to rebook their flights and not travel to the airport on June 20.

Outbound and inbound flights at Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL), however, will continue to operate on June 20. Nevertheless, authorities at CRL expect significant delays due to the planned industrial action and are advising passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled departure times.

Residual flight disruptions are likely at both airports even after the June 20 general strike ends. Delays and cancellations could extend into the early hours of June 21 as carriers reposition aircraft and work through their passenger backlogs.

Advice

Contact airlines to confirm flight statuses and schedules if slated to fly via Brussels on June 20. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Allow considerable extra time to clear security and check-in if departing CLR. If booked to fly out of BRU on June 20, contact airlines as soon as possible to reschedule travel arrangements. Consider other transportation options for critical travel.
