Activists affiliated with several women's rights and anti-corruption organizations, including Centinelas Guatemala, plan to rally in Guatemala City, June 7, to express support for former anti-corruption prosecutor Virginia Laparra. Demonstrators intend to gather at the Tribunals Tower (Torre de Tribunales), located along 7A Avenida, starting at 10:00. Laparra's trial is scheduled to start in that location June 7. It is unclear how many people will attend.

Heightened security around the protest is likely, with associated transport and business disruptions. Clashes are unlikely to occur.

Context

Laparra was part of the Special Attorney's Office Against Impunity (Fiscalia Especial Contra la Impunidad, FECI). She was arrested for allegedly abusing her authority, after charging a former judge.
