Event

The US Embassy in Budapest issued a demonstration alert June 3 for two rallies scheduled to take place in the city June 4. Individuals participating in the first demonstration, organized to be held on the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Trianon, are slated to gather at the Batthyany Eternal Flame at 12:00 before marching through Liberty Square to the Monument to the National Martyrs and then back to the Batthyany Eternal Flame; the demonstration may attract up to 200 participants and is scheduled to end at 16:00.

At 16:30, some 500 activists affiliated with Mi Hazank Mozgalom (Our Homeland Movement) are scheduled to gather in front of the Embassy of Ukraine in the city's Istenhegy area. Participants will then march to Szent Laszlo Church via Kolto Street and Diana Street; the demonstration is slated to end at around 19:00.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely around the march routes. Clashes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out, especially if police attempt to disperse rally participants.
