Nepal: Domestic flight disruptions may occur nationwide as of June 3 due to new weather policy

Flight disruptions possible in Nepal as of June 3 due to new weather policy. Reconfirm flight schedules.

Informational

Event

Domestic flight disruptions may occur across Nepal as of June 3 due to a new policy that allows flights to operate only if the route's weather information is available and if the weather is clear. The measure is in place after a Tara Air (TB) plane crashed in Thasang Municipality, Mustang District, Gandaki Province, May 29; initial investigations have attributed the incident to poor weather. Additionally, authorities are mandating helicopters to operate only with two pilots in each flight.

Air travel disruptions may occur, especially flights that serve airports in mountainous areas. The policy has prompted the cancelation of flights serving Kathmandu, among others.

Advice

Confirm flight schedules. Do not check out of accommodations until verifying onward travel.
