Somalia: Airline Operators Association threatens to suspend all domestic flights effective June 19 due to security concerns

Airline Operators Association of Somalia threatens to suspend all domestic flights starting June 19 due to security concerns.

Warning

Event

On June 18, the Airline Operators Association of Somalia (AOA) forwarded a statement to the nation's civil aviation authorities notifying them that the organization's member carriers planned to suspend all domestic flights indefinitely effective June 19. The AOA cited security concerns for the move and stated that the suspension would remain in place until such time as authorities implement a solution that ensures the safety of aircraft and passengers. Unconfirmed information indicates, however, that not all member airlines will participate in the AOA's action and that some have suspended flights only to certain locations.

Unless averted, the flight suspension will cause disruptions to passenger air travel and air freight shipping within Somalia.

Advice

Contact airlines to confirm domestic flight schedules, if operating in Somalia. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed.
