US: Flight delays continue at Miami International Airport (MIA) following June 21 aircraft incident /update 1

Flight delays continue after plane catches fire upon landing at Miami International Airport (MIA), US, June 21; runways to reopen June 24.

Informational

Event

Miami International Airport (MIA) is continuing to experience flight disruptions as of June 23 in connection with the June 21 crash landing of RED Air Flight 203 (L5203) at the airport. MIA authorities have reported dozens of delays on June 23 alone as two of the airport's four runways remain closed amid an investigation into the incident, which was caused by the collapse of the aircraft's landing gear. Although the disabled aircraft remains situated between the two closed runways as of June 23, the airport and all access roads are open.

Associated delays and cancellations remain likely at MIA through at least June 24, when authorities will probably remove the plane and reopen the closed runways. Lingering flight disruptions will likely affect MIA after the runways reopen as airport officials work to clear the flight backlog.

Advice

Prepare for related flight disruptions at MIA through at least June 24. Confirm flight reservations and budget additional time to reach your destination if flying via MIA. Consider making alternative transport arrangements, if necessary. Adhere to all instructions issued by airport officials and other local authorities.
