Emergency crews are continuing their response to a passenger train derailment near Mendon, Missouri June 27. Authorities have confirmed that three people were killed and at least 50 were injured when the Amtrak train traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago hit a truck near Mendon. Two of the deceased were on the train while the third was inside the truck. About 243 passengers and 12 crew members were on board. The crash derailed eight cars and two locomotives.

Disruptions are likely to Amtrak services using the same route. The train company canceled one trip scheduled between Chicago and Kansas City late June 27, with others having been delayed. Rail transport disruptions could continue into at least June 28.

Mendon is located in Chariton County approximately 100 km (62 miles) northwest of Columbia and 130 km (81 miles) northeast of Kansas City.
