Activists affiliated with the Westboro Baptist Church have announced plans to stage rallies at multiple locations in Spokane and nearby Spokane Valley, Washington State, on Oct. 11. Rally organizers have announced that demonstrations will occur at the following places and times:
Be Bold for Jesus Conference at Spokane Convention Center, Spokane: 12:00-12:45; 15:00-15:30; 18:15-18:50
East Valley High School, Spokane Valley: 14:00-14:30
Related demonstrations were scheduled to occur at Gonzaga University and Spokane Community College during the morning hours, and rally organizers may announce additional demonstrations on short notice. Rally participation numbers were not immediately clear.
Authorities will probably deploy a heightened security presence to the rally sites. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely. Counterdemonstrations may materialize near the Westboro Baptist Church demonstration sites. Clashes between activists and law enforcement officers or between ideologically opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.
