Cambodia to host the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Phnom Penh July 30-Aug. 6. Heightened security likely.

Informational

Event

Cambodia will host the 55th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related events at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel July 30-Aug. 6. In addition to the foreign ministers of the 10 ASEAN member nations, foreign ministers from several non-member countries will also be in attendance. Attendees will arrive and depart via Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH). Additional possible sites hosting ASEAN-related gatherings include the Peace Palace and National Assembly building.

Authorities will almost certainly tighten security near the Sokha Hotel, PNH, and other sites hosting official events through Aug. 6, prompting possible localized transport disruptions. Police will likely temporarily block roads near Mekong River Street and Tonle Sap Street and redirect traffic to facilitate high-level motorcades. Localized business disruptions are possible.

Advice

If operating in Phnom Penh, consider avoiding event venues if not attending. Allow additional time for transport through the evening of Aug. 6. Carry proper identification documents. Follow all instructions from security personnel.
