Bikers stage demonstrations across Bogota, Colombia, July 7 to protest motorcycle passenger restrictions; traffic disruptions reported.

Informational

Event

Motorcyclists have staged demonstrations across Bogota July 7 to oppose the extension of a local measure that prohibits bikers from transporting male passengers from 19:00 to 04:00 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The rule is now slated to remain in effect until at least Dec. 31. Protest activity has been reported at the Virgilio Barco Library as well as on several routes in the capital, notably including Avenida Norte-Quito-Sur (NQS), Calle 63, and Calle 26, among others. Motorcyclists have reportedly driven slowly on some thoroughfares, impeding the flow of traffic. Authorities have accordingly advised individuals traveling to El Dorado International Airport (BOG) to allow extra time to reach the facility amid the demonstrations.

Lingering transport disruptions and heightened security measures are likely in Bogota over the coming hours, particularly along routes subject to protest activity. Motorcyclists may stage similar demonstrations in the capital over the coming days and weeks.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a precaution and to mitigate the impact of related disruptions. Allow additional time to reach your destination if operating in Bogota July 7. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
