Event
Emergency crews are responding to a wildfire in Sibenik-Knin County in central Dalmatia Region as of July 14. The blaze broke out July 13 near the village of Zaton, around 10 km (6 miles) north of the city of Sibenik. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed. The fire spread rapidly amid windy and dry conditions and it has grown to more than 3,300 hectares (8,154 acres) as of early July 14. More than 350 personnel are on-site tackling the blaze. The fire has largely been brought under control as of July 14. The fire caused damage to around 20 homes in the villages of Zaton and Raslina and residents from these areas were forced to evacuate, some of them by boat. Several vehicles have also been damaged by the flames. The bridge between Sibenik and Vodice and the Vodice bypass have reopened July 14 having been closed overnight July 13-14; however, state road DC27 from the intersection with the Adriatic highway (DC8) to Gacelezi and the county road Vodice-Gacelezi (ZC6086) are still closed due to the fire.
Emergency responders may close roads in affected areas at short notice depending on evolving wildfire conditions and operational needs. Smoke from the fire could cause poor air quality. Authorities may issue additional mandatory evacuation orders at short notice. The fire could also lead to power supply disruptions.
Advice
Heed any evacuation orders. Seek updated information on road conditions if driving in the affected area; road closures and detours will likely cause increased congestion and delays. Individuals not under evacuation warnings should consider remaining inside well-ventilated, air-conditioned spaces to reduce exposure to smoke. Collect essential items - including identification and any important legal and travel documents - in a "go-bag" that can be easily accessed. Charge battery-powered devices in the case of prolonged power outages.
