Portugal: Unionized railway workers to hold nationwide strike July 14

Unionized railway workers in Portugal to strike nationwide July 14; significant rail service disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Unionized railway workers employed by Comboios de Portugal (CP), the national rail operator, will engage in a nationwide strike July 14 to demand salary increases. A minimum level of service will be provided, with further information regarding these services available on the CP website. CP officials have warned that disruptions may also be felt July 13 due to an earlier strike held July 12.

The strike is likely to be well observed and result in significant disruptions to rail services. Increased congestion is likely on other forms of transportation during the labor action. Heightened demand for alternative modes of transportation may also result in reduced taxi availability.

Advice

Check service schedules prior to travel if traveling via rail throughout Portugal July 14. Consider alternative transport options, if necessary. Allow additional time for travel.
