Portugal: Unionized railway workers to hold nationwide strikes Aug. 1, 3 and 5
Unionized railway workers in Portugal to strike nationwide Aug. 1, 3 and 5; significant rail service disruptions likely.
Event
Unionized railway workers employed by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), the national railway infrastructure provider, will engage in a series of nationwide strikes Aug. 1, 3 and 5. A minimum level of service will be provided. Rail services will also likely be disrupted on the intervening days of Aug. 2 and 4, and on Aug. 6 as services return to normal.
The strike is likely to be well observed and result in significant disruptions to rail services. Increased congestion is likely on other forms of transportation during the labor action. Heightened demand for alternative modes of transportation may also result in reduced taxi availability.
Advice
Check service schedules prior to travel if traveling via rail throughout Portugal August 1-6. Consider alternative transport options, if necessary. Allow additional time for travel.
