Emergency services continue to respond to an uncontrolled fire at a fuel storage area in Matanzas late Aug. 7. The fire started Aug. 5 after lightning struck the facility. According to officials, the blaze has killed at least one person and injured 121 people. 17 firefighters are reportedly missing. Authorities evacuated over 1,000 civilians from the area as a precaution. Reports indicate that at least two of the eight fuel tanks have exploded.

Efforts to contain the fire are ongoing. Officials will likely close roads leading to the site until the blaze is extinguished. Further evacuations are possible.

Matanzas is 84 km (52 miles) east of Havana.
