Event

Students plan to march in Guatemala City Aug. 20 to protest alleged fraud in the San Carlos University's (USAC) rector election. Protesters will gather at the Metropolitan University Center starting at 08:00 before marching to USAC's central campus. Student groups will also hold various events, such as street performances and group meetings, around USAC, including at Plaza de los Martirez and along Petapa Avenue.

Thousands of students will probably participate in the demonstration. Heightened security, as well as localized business and transport disruptions, are likely through late Aug. 20. Clashes between police and students are possible.
