Informational

Event

The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has called for a 24-hour shutdown strike in the hill areas of Manipur State from 18:00 Aug. 3. Affected districts will include Chandal, Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong, and Ukhrul. Business and transport service disruptions are possible. ATSUM plans additional actions in the coming days.

Participants may hold demonstrations, with the largest gatherings likely in major cities and towns. Demonstrators will likely gather at government buildings and public squares. Protests may also block or march along roadways. Dozens to a few hundred people will likely gather for larger rallies.

Security personnel will likely monitor protests and may try to disperse especially disruptive gatherings. Clashes between security forces and protesters are possible, especially if police forcibly break up crowds. Localized transport disruptions are possible if protesters block roadways.

Advice

Avoid protests due to possible violence. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately and take shelter in a secure, non-governmental building. Follow all security personnel instructions. Monitor local news sources for updates on protests and road conditions, as organizers may not announce details in advance. Allow additional travel time near rallies. Confirm business appointments in advance.
