Informational

Event

Activists plan to protest at Imamzadeh Abdollah Square in Hamedan from 11:00 Aug. 11 over politician Mir Hossein Mousavi's comments about former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Hossein Hamedani. Mousavi called Hamedani, who died in an Islamic State (IS) attack in Syria in 2015, a "disgraceful" leader. Dozens to hundreds of individuals could attend the demonstration.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near Imamzadeh Abdollah Square through the afternoon of Aug. 11. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are overly disruptive or if they ignore police orders to disperse.

Hamedan is approximately 215 km (134 miles) west of Qom.

Advice

Avoid the protest due to the potential for clashes. Heed the advice of security personnel. Allow additional time if traveling through the affected area Aug. 11.
