Clashes between rival armed groups are ongoing in central Tripoli, including near Zawiyah Street, during the afternoon Aug. 27. Confrontations have also reportedly occurred in Janzour, immediately west of Tripoli. Reports indicate that some militia forces have mobilized in Misrata and are deploying towards Tripoli. Local officials have indicated that the fighting has resulted in an unspecified number of casualties among civilian bystanders and warned residents not to go outdoors. It is not clear how many combatants have been killed or injured. Damage to public and private buildings has also occurred. Mitiga International Airport (MJI) operations are reportedly ongoing.
Further confrontations between opposing groups are likely in the coming hours and an escalation in violence is possible. Troop deployments and fighting are likely to result in some road closures, including to both secondary and primary routes serving the city. Business and state operation disruptions are also likely in areas experiencing fighting. Disruptions to operations at MJI are possible in response to security assessments. Carriers may also cancel flights at short notice.

Consider deferring nonessential travel to and within Tripoli until violence subsides. Shelter in place. Should violence erupt, depart the area immediately and seek shelter in a secure location while staying away from windows and exterior walls. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation.
