France: Yellow Vest activists to protest march in Paris Sept. 3

Yellow Vest activists to stage protest march in Paris, France, Sept. 3; increased security, localized disruptions likely. Violence possible.

Warning

Event

Activists affiliated with the Yellow Vests (Gilets Jaunes) movement plan to stage a protest march in Paris Sept. 3. The purpose of the action is to call for the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron and protest various grievances, including COVID-19 vaccine mandates, the rising cost of living, and international issues, among other matters. Participants will gather at Villiers Metro station around 12:00 for a rally. They will then march to Place de la Bastille from around 14:00. It was not immediately clear how many people would participate in the event.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy police to monitor the demonstration. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely. Increased congestion or access restrictions at Villiers Metro station may occur around the rally's start time. Violence cannot be ruled out, especially if protesters are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse.

Advice

Avoid the protest as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the march. If violence erupts nearby, immediately depart the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Heed all instructions from local authorities.
