Western Europe: Activists to stage demonstrations at Chinese diplomatic premises across Western Europe, June 26
Activists to stage demonstrations at Chinese diplomatic premises across Western Europe, June 26. Heightened security, disruptions.
Activists plan to protest at Chinese diplomatic premises in Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands, and UK, June 26. Organizers will denounce the EACOP (East African Crude Oil Pipeline) project in Uganda and Tanzania, which is part-sponsored by Chinese entities. Activists plan to gather at the following locations:
Denmark: Chinese Embassy, Copenhagen
France: Chinese Embassy, Paris
Germany: Chinese Consulate, Dusseldorf
Netherlands: Chinese Embassy, The Hague
UK: Chinese Embassy, London
UK: Chinese Consulate, Manchester.
Further protests are possible in other locations. It is likely that up to a few hundred participants may attend each event. Local authorities will likely deploy additional security measures as recent protests in London resulted in scuffles between protesters and embassy personnel.
Authorities will likely deploy an increased security presence to all Chinese diplomatic premises. Transport disruptions are possible in areas that are subject to protest activity. Scuffles involving protesters cannot be ruled out.
Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling through urban centers where demonstrations may occur. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
