Guatemala: Activists plan protests in Guatemala City Sept. 20

Activists, comprised largely of retirees and military veterans, are planning a series of protests in Guatemala City 07:00-15:00 Sept. 20, likely related to pensions amidst the rising cost of living. The protests are scheduled to take place at the Obelisk, Constitution Plaza (Plaza del Constitucion), and the Congress of the Republic (Congreso de la Republica).

It is possible that the events will draw hundreds to thousands of protesters at the three locations. A heightened security presence is likely, as are localized transit disruptions. Reduced access to La Aurora International Airport (GUA) is possible. Clashes between police and protesters are possible.
