Mexico: Disruptions likely nationwide due to Independence Day celebrations Sept. 16
Disruptions likely across Mexico due to Independence Day celebrations Sept.16; Mexico city's airspace closed 09:00-14:00.
Event
Disruptions are likely across Mexico due to Independence Day celebrations Sept. 16. Authorities will carry out a planned closure of Mexico City's airspace 09:00-14:00; airlines have been informed in advance. Additionally, large-scale events, especially marches and parades, will likely occur in the city centers across Mexico, including Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey. Street closures and temporary detours are likely.
In Mexico City, officials will likely close several roads north of the capital for the traditional military Independence Day parade scheduled to take place at 11:00. The military parade will begin at the Historical Center/Zocalo and proceed along Calle 5 and end at Campo Marte. Officials have provided alternative routes to circumvent parade activities; Avenida Presidente Masaryk, Circuito Interior, Eje 1 Norte, Eje 1 Oriente, Jose Maria Izazago, Fray Servando Teresa de Mier, Avenida Chapultepec, and Avenida Constituventes.
Heightened security and an increased military presence in major cities, especially around parades and near government buildings, are likely. Disruptions to transport are also likely as authorities implement additional security measures.
Advice
Exercise caution near all parades and celebratory gatherings as a standard security precaution. Seek alternative routes and allow extra time for travel near known parade sites and in downtown areas of major cities. Confirm all flights via airports in Mexico City Sept. 16.
