Tocumen International Airport (PTY) in Panama City, Panama, closed late Sept. 25 due to runway excursion. Confirm flights.

Warning

Event

Authorities have suspended operations at Tocumen International Airport (PTY) in Panama City as of late Sept. 25 due to a runway excursion. Copa Airways Flight 135 (CMP135) from Mexico City veered off the runway during landing amid heavy rain. Emergency responders have evacuated all flight crew and passengers from the aircraft. There have been no reports of casualties. PTY will remain closed until further notice; officials have redirected incoming flights to Albrook International Airport (PAC). It is unclear when normal operations will resume.

Flight disruptions are likely in the coming hours as recovery operations and investigations continue. Residual delays are possible when flights resume as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.

Advice

Reconfirm flight status at PTY through at least Sept. 26. Do not check out of accommodations until verifying onward transport.
