UK: Anti-government activists to demonstrate in urban centers Oct. 1

Anti-government activists to demonstrate in UK urban centers Oct. 1; increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

The Enough is Enough anti-government movement plans to lead demonstrations in several UK urban centers Oct. 1. The purpose of the action is to demand the government take action to address cost of living increases. Demonstrations are confirmed at the following times and locations:

  • London: King's Cross Station, 12:00

  • Birmingham: Birmingham New Street Station, 12:00

  • Bristol: Square in front of Knights Templar, 12:00

  • Cardiff: Cardiff Central Station, 10:30

  • Glasgow: Buchanan Street Steps, 12:00

  • Leeds: Leeds Train Station, 10:00

  • Leicester: Jubilee Square, 14:00

  • Liverpool: Saint George's Plateau, 12:00

  • Manchester: Piccadilly Gardens, 12:00

  • Newcastle: Grey's Monument, 12:00

  • Nottingham: Lower Parliament Street, 12:00

  • Sheffield: Devonshire Green, 11:30

Additional demonstrations are planned in further locations nationwide. Attendance will vary by location but will likely be in the thousands at larger gatherings.

Additional police will deploy to monitor and facilitate the demonstrations. Large crowds and associated security measures, including road closures and movement restrictions, will prompt localized business and transport disruptions in demonstration areas. Public transport services could be canceled or diverted. The demonstrations are likely to proceed peacefully but isolated clashes between activists and security services cannot be ruled out, particularly if protesters attempt to breach any security cordons.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Check for transport disruptions before beginning journeys and allow extra time for travel in affected areas Oct. 1.
