Belgium: Departing flights cancelled at Brussels South Charleroi Airport Oct. 19 /update 2

All flight departures cancelled at Brussels South Charleroi Airport, Belgium, Oct. 19.

Warning

Event

Airport authorities have canceled all flights scheduled to depart Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL) Oct. 19 despite unions and employers reaching an agreement to end a security staff strike late Oct. 18. Unionized security staff blocked access to the airport Oct. 17-18 as part of a strike and protest over a recent awarding of a security contract to two providers. The severity of the disruption prompted airport authorities to cancel all departures prior to an agreement being reached. Arriving flights are not affected.

Delays in processing passengers are expected to ease through Oct. 19 as security staff return to work. Increased congestion in departure halls and lingering disruptions to departing flights remain likely on Oct. 20 when departures resume as the airport deals with a backlog of passengers and reorganizes flight schedules.

Advice

Confirm flights if scheduled to fly via CRL Oct. 19-20. Make alternative travel arrangements if necessary. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Maintain flexible schedules and arrive at the airport early to allow additional time for passenger processing
