Planned power outages will continue in parts of Phnom Penh and surrounding areas through Oct. 9 due to maintenance work. Utility provider Electricite du Cambodge has announced outages on the following days:

  • Oct. 7: Outages will occur in the Daun Penh, Chroy Changvar, and Pou Senchey districts of Phnom Penh 08:00-13:00. Additional disruptions planned in Daun Penh, Dangkor, and Pou Senchey districts of Phnom Penh, as well as Takhmao City, Kandal Province, 08:00-16:00.

  • Oct. 8: Power disruptions will impact Daun Penh, Prek Pnov districts of Phnom Penh, as well as Ponhea Lueu District, Kandal Province, 08:00-13:00. Further planned outages to occur in Boeng Keng Kang, Sen Sok, and Pou Senchey districts of Phnom Penh, and Takhmao City, Kandal Province, 08:00-16:00.

  • Oct. 9: Electricity disruptions will occur in the Seven Makara, Sen Sok, Pou Senchey, and Dangkor districts of Phnom Penh, and Takhmao City, Kandal Province, 08:00-16:00.

Disruptions to business and telecommunications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Transport disruptions are likely in areas with malfunctioning traffic signals. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs and gas stations. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.

Advice

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
