Colombia: Anti-government protests scheduled in several locations Oct. 29
Anti-government activists to hold protests in multiple locations throughout Colombia, from 10:00 Oct. 29.
Event
Activists intend to hold protests in multiple locations throughout Colombia, Oct. 29, to oppose President Gustavo Petro's administration.
All protests are scheduled to begin at 10:00, with the largest demonstration likely to take place in Bogota, where activists plan to gather in four different locations: the intersections of Calle 127 and Carrera Septima, Calle 72 and Carrera Septima, Calle 63 and Carrera Septima, and the Plaza de los Caidos. From there, activists plan to march to Plaza de Bolivar.
Other confirmed protest locations are:
Barranquilla: March from Estadero La Troja to Plaza La Paz.
Bucaramanga: March from Puerta del Sol to Plaza Luis Carlos Galan.
Cali: March from Plaza de las Banderas to Plaza Jairo Varela.
Cartagena: March from Camellon de los Martires to Monumento India Catalina.
Cucuta: March from Redoma de San Mateo to Parque Santander.
Medellin: March from Teatro Pablo Tobon Uribe to Parque de las Luces.
Santa Marta: March from Plazoleta del Camellon to La Catedral.
Protests in other locations are highly likely. Thousands are likely to participate in most demonstrations, especially in Bogota, Medellin, Cali, and Cartagena. Heightened security near the protest areas is likely, as well as transport disruptions throughout the march routes. Violence cannot be discounted, especially if protesters become unruly or refuse to disperse if ordered to do so.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near an impacted area Oct. 29. If violence erupts nearby, depart the area immediately and seek shelter in a secure nongovernmental building.
