Warning

Event

Motorcyclists plan to demonstrate in Bogota Oct. 12 to protest several issues, including perceived mistreatment by police and rising prices of fuel and insurance, among others. Activists intend to gather outside the Virgilio Barco Library, located near the Simon Bolivar Central Park, starting at 07:30. It is likely that the protesters will drive around the city for several hours as they have done in previous protests. Thousands of motorcyclists are likely to participate in the event.

Transport disruptions and heightened security are likely in the capital amid the protest activity. Activists may fully block some roads and also gather outside government offices, especially the Ministry of Transportation and the Office of the Mayor of Bogota.

Advice

Avoid all protest activity as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach your destination if operating in Bogota Oct. 12. Do not attempt to cross a roadblock if you encounter one; seek alternative routes or wait for the police to reopen affected roads.
