Colombia: Unionized teachers to hold strike and related protests in Santander Department Nov. 1-2
Unionized teachers plan to hold 48-hour strike and related protests in Santander Department, Colombia, Nov. 1-2; heightened security likely.
Event
Unionized teachers affiliated with the Santander Education Workers' Union (Sindicato de Los Trabajadores del Sector Educativo de Santander, SES) plan to hold a 48-hour strike in Santander Department Nov. 1-2 to demand better healthcare for educators. Participating activists also intend to stage related protests: they plan to gather in the Puerta del Sol area of Bucaramanga starting at 08:30 Nov. 1 and march from there to the Santander Department Governor's Office via Carrera 27 and Calle 36. Protesters also intend to gather outside the Fosunab offices in Floridablanca, south of Bucaramanga, Nov. 2.
Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely in areas subject to protest activity, including along major roads. Higher-than-usual absenteeism is possible due to the teachers' strike.
Advice
Avoid all protest activity as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach your destination if operating in protest-affected areas, especially in Bucaramanga. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
