Germany: Eurowings' pilots to stage nationwide one-day strike Oct. 6

Eurowings' pilots plan to strike across Germany Oct. 6. Airport and flight disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Eurowings Germany (EW) pilots represented by the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union plan to strike on Oct 6. The union called the action to demand improved pilot working conditions, including pilot rest periods and shorter duty times. The strike comes after 10 failed rounds of negotiations between labor and management.

Unless averted, the work stoppage will prompt significant flight disruptions. Although the carrier expects to operate only half of its normal flights, the company stresses that only Eurowings Germany and not Eurowings Europe (E2) will be affected by the industrial action. The airline will also rely on carriers belonging to parent company Lufthansa (LH) Group's network for impacted flights. Disruptions may continue in the hours after the end of the strike as Eurowings repositions aircraft and works through any passenger backlog.

Advice

Confirm flights if scheduled to fly with Eurowings Germany Oct. 6. Make alternative travel arrangements where necessary. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Maintain flexible schedules and arrive at the airport early to allow additional time for processing.
