Germany: Long distance train service suspended in northern Germany Oct. 8

Duetsche Bahn suspends long distance train service in northern Germany Oct. 8. Reconfirm rail reservations.

Warning

Event

Deutsche Bahn (DB) suspended all long-distance rail service in northern German the morning of Oct. 8 due to a technical fault. Trains to and from Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Lower Saxony from the direction of Kassel-Wilhelmshohe, Berlin, and North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) are affected. DB is advising travelers between Berlin and NRW to use alternative long-distance trains with a change in Frankfurt. Intercity Express (ICE) service between Berlin, NRW, and Hanover is suspended, as well as Intercity (IC) trains to and from Berlin towards Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Officials did not immediately confirm when service will resume. Increased demand for alternate transport or routes is likely.

Advice

Seek alternative transport for time-sensitive travel. Confirm rail operations through Oct. 8 as a precaution.
