Individuals are clashing with border authorities at the Dajabon-Ouanaminthe Binational Bridge, which connects Haiti and the Dominican Republic Oct. 21. Protesters from the Haitian side of the bridge pelted stones at border authorities, and some reports also suggest that gunshots have been fired during the clashes. The protesters are mainly Haitians who work at the Binational Market in the Dominican city of Dajabon; they are demanding that border authorities allow them to cross.

Heightened security, as well as localized business and transport disruptions, are likely to persist in the coming hours or days. It remains unclear when the authorities will reinstate regular cross-border travel. Further clashes and violence remain possible.
