Iranian authorities will almost certainly increase security measures across the country, particularly around sensitive public institutions and religious establishments following an armed attack on Oct. 26. Authorities have stated that a lone gunman opened fire at approximately 17:45 at the Shahcheragh Holy Shrine in Shiraz, killing 15 people and wounding at least 10 others. The gunman has been detained. Authorities have concluded that there was a single assailant; earlier reports indicated that there were three perpetrators.

The motive behind the incident is unclear. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack; however, authorities have described it as a terrorist attack. Localized transport disruptions are likely as police continue to investigate the attack. Public transport diversions are possible.
