Assailants attack vehicles and kill 11 people near Banibangou, Niger, Oct. 22.

Unidentified assailants attacked cargo vehicles and a motorcycle near Banibangou in the Tillaberi Region, Oct. 22, killing at least 11 people. Two cargo vehicles were destroyed and a third was stolen. The identity of the assailants is unclear; however, given the location, Islamist militants are suspected.
Context
Tillaberi is one of several regions in Niger currently under a state of emergency due to frequent jihadist militant attacks. Local security forces remain largely unable to mitigate and remove the threat. Further violence is likely.
