Officials in the Philippines will enforce a new SIM card registration law from Oct. 28. The law aims to regulate the issuance of SIM cards to prevent spam text messages and scams. Under the measure, all new and existing users must register their SIM cards with public telecommunication entities (PTEs) using valid identification documents. People can register their SIM cards online through electronic registration forms provided by PTEs. Officials have warned that all existing SIM cards that are not registered within 180 days from the card's effective date will be deactivated. Individuals that violate SIM card registration requirements may face fines of up to PHP 1 million.
