Portugal: Unionized metro staff plan to strike in Lisbon, Oct. 25
Unionized metro workers in Lisbon, Portugal, plan to strike Oct. 25. Severe metro service disruptions likely.
Event
Metro workers in Lisbon affiliated with the FECTRANS union plan to strike Oct. 25 to demand improved working conditions. Employees will suspend work for 24-hours but it likely that disruptions will start on the evening of Oct. 24 and continue into the morning of Oct. 26. A similar action Oct. 12 was called off a few days before it was due to start.
Overcrowding is likely on available modes of public transport in Lisbon Oct. 25. Increased demand for private transport, including taxis and rental vehicles, is also possible. Traffic congestion will likely be heavier than usual in central Lisbon as an increased number of commuters resort to using their personal vehicles rather than public transport. Residual metro delays are possible for some hours after the strike ends.
Advice
Allow additional time for travel to destinations throughout Lisbon, including Lisbon Airport (LIS), Oct. 25. Confirm taxi and rental car reservations.
