Informational

Event

Heightened tensions are likely in Abyei Region, a disputed area between Sudan and South Sudan, after tribal clashes left at least 12 people dead and wounded dozens of others Oct. 10. Officials have accused members of an armed youth group from Twic community in Warrap State, South Sudan of carrying out the raid; no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Security personnel deployed to the area following the clashes.

Increased security measures are likely in the impacted areas in the coming days. While peace has reportedly been restored, further violence can not be ruled out. Should any violence occur, officials could impose movement restrictive measures, including curfews.

Advice

Exercise caution if operating in Abyei Region. Travel only in convoy and during daylight hours. Maintain contact with diplomatic missions.
