Informational

Event

An armed attack by criminals on Long Bay Road in Turks and Caicos Oct. 2 killed one US national and a local business owner. At approximately 18:00, a vehicle with suspected gang members opened fire on a vehicle that was shuttling tourists. The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) later gave pursuit to the criminals, exchanging gunfire from their vehicles. Five people, including at least one police officer, were injured in the incident; police have suggested that a dead body found at the dockyards soon after was a criminal killed in the incident. Authorities did not immediately confirm the motive for the attack, but an RTCIPF spokesperson suggested that the incident is linked to gangs involved in drug trafficking.
