US: Further protests possible near Los Angeles City Hall in California through Oct. 11

Activists seeking resignation of city council members likely to protest near Los Angeles City Hall in Calif., US, through Oct. 11.

Informational

Event

Protests are possible in and around the Los Angeles City Hall through at least the end of Oct. 11 as activists demand the resignation of several members of the city council. The demands follow the release of a recorded conversation between three council members and a labor leader, during which some of the participants allegedly made controversial racial remarks.

Groups of demonstrators first assembled outside city hall during the evening of Oct. 10 and again during the morning of Oct. 11 prior to a scheduled city council meeting; how long activists remain in the vicinity will probably largely depend on the outcome of the council meeting. Police have increased security in the area; localized transport and business disruptions are likely.

Advice

Avoid the area of Los Angeles City Hall into the evening of Oct. 11 as a standard precaution. Allow additional travel time to reach nearby destinations. Heed instructions from local security personnel.
