Cambodia: ASEAN Summits and related meetings to take place in Phnom Penh Nov. 8-13

Cambodia to host ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Phnom Penh Nov. 8-13. Tight security, localized traffic disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Cambodia will host the 40th and 41st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summits and related meetings at the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel in Chroy Changvar district Nov. 8-13. Leaders and delegations from 10 member nations and several other countries are scheduled to attend the summit. More than 1,000 foreign delegates and journalists will likely participate in the event. Other possible sites hosting ASEAN-related gatherings include the Peace Palace and National Assembly building.

Authorities will bolster security in Phnom Penh, particularly around the summit venue and other sites hosting official events, Nov. 8-13. Officials will deploy more than 10,000 security personnel in Phnom Penh during the summit as a precaution. Checkpoints and random security checks are likely, particularly on roads leading to Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel. Road closures and traffic delays are likely in the vicinity of the event venues, particularly during the arrivals and departures of delegates. Police will probably impose temporary block roads near Mekong River Street and Tonle Sap Street and redirect traffic to facilitate high-level motorcades. Localized business disruptions are likely.

Attendees will probably arrive and depart via Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH). Increased security at PNH during the summit may lead to possible congestion and delays in clearing customs and security screenings.

Advice

If operating in Phnom Penh, consider avoiding event venues if not attending. Allow additional time for transport Nov. 8-13. Carry proper identification documents. Follow all instructions from security personnel.
