A police investigation into the death of a US and Vietnamese citizen in Medellin is ongoing as of Nov. 15. The victim was found dead Nov. 10 in the Robledo neighborhood following a suspected robbery. The man lived in Orange County, California, and had traveled to Colombia with a friend. Family members said he was drugged and robbed before being killed, but authorities have yet to confirm those details.

Crime in Medellin has been decreasing over the past decades, and in recent years the murder rate has been around 16 murders per 100,000 residents. However, authorities have reported a high number of robberies, and at times homicides, to foreign visitors. Reports indicate 25 foreign travelers have been killed in Medellin in 2022.
