Heightened security likely after protestors intruded on PM's private residence in Nhlambeni, Eswatini, Nov. 4. Possible violence.

Informational

Event

As of Nov. 4, increased security is likely following protestors' intrusion on Prime Minster Dlamini's private residence in Nhlambeni. On Nov. 3, protesting police officers peacefully marched onto the premises to demand promised salary increases, requiring the deployment of the Operational Support Services Unit (OSSU) and of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Reports suggest they were also planning to march on the homes of Cabinet Ministers and senior police officers.

Protestors could attempt similar demonstrations, and violence is possible should protesting officers attempt to return to the premises. Armed personnel are likely to maintain a heightened security presence near government buildings and the private residences of government officials in the coming days. Localized disruptions are likely near any gatherings that occur.

Advice

Avoid sensitive areas due to possible violence. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Follow all security personnel instructions. Monitor local news for updates on protests and road conditions, as protestors may not announce actions in advance.
