Gambia: Activist group plans to protest nationwide Nov. 11

Activists associated with the Coalition of Progressive Gambians plan to stage nationwide demonstrations between the hours of 10:00-18:00 Nov. 11. In Banjul, participants will assemble at the National Assembly building before marching to McCarthy Square (formerly July 22nd Square). Organizers have indicated that demonstrations elsewhere in the country would likely take place at the offices of the regional governors, including those in Brikama, Mansakonko, Janjanbureh, Kerewon, and Basse. The purpose of the action is to protest against the high cost of living, unemployment, and alleged political corruption, among other issues.

Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that materialize. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out. Counter-protests are possible.

Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
