Informational

Event

Climate activists from Extinction Rebellion (XR) plan a demonstration in The Hague, from 12:00 Nov. 26, to denounce subsidies paid to the fossil fuel industry. Participants plan to block the A12 motorway between the temporary building of the House of Representatives and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate.

Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the action. The protest itself and related security measures will prompt transport disruptions in the surrounding area; public transport services may be canceled or diverted. The action is likely to proceed peacefully as XR advocates for non-violent civil disobedience; however, police may use forceful methods to disperse the protest and isolated scuffles with disgruntled drivers cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the protest as a routine security procedure. Follow local travel and security advice. Leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Do not attempt to pass through any roadblocks. Check for disruptions and allow extra time for travel in The Hague Nov. 26.
